one group comes face face with a young great white shark at the jersey shore. we'll tell you what happened next. also, water worries philmont county auditorium. residents searching for answers about the safety of their drinking water now have a celebrity active visit on their side. what erin brokovich toll the crowd tonight. but first, terror in turkey. three suicide bombers target its airport killing at least three dozen people. who is being blamed for that attack and how americans traveling abroad are reaction to go this latest act of violence. airports are on high alert. good evening, i'm jessica dean. >> i'm ukee washington. attackers opened fire in the departure area of the istanbul airport before they detonated explosives. any control brewer is following the very latest developments. >> turkey's prime minister says 36 people were killed in that tack at your op's third busiest airport. the at last checks 147 people were would you bed and state department is now working to

determine whether any of the victims were americans. at istanbul's airport some ran to safety others hid from danger after explosions and gun tire erupted in the international terminal. killing dozens of people and wounding even more. >> one airport worker witnessed the chaos saying "for people fell in front of me. they were torn into pieces ". the government says three suicide bombers carried out the attack. first opening fire, then detonating explosives near a security checkpoint according to reports. >> there was shooting and we ran the other way. and then bombs went off. and people started running the other way and more shooting. >> at philadelphia international airport travelers reaction to do news of the attack. >> just makes me really nervous. it could happen anywhere. it could happen at any time. >> jerry of chestnut hill was returning from a 10 day trip in greece where he says he encountered three extra lawyers of security at athens international airport. >> had to keep talking to

different people. they asked us lots of questions. we had to show our passports three different times. >> that was hours before the attack. and one day after our state department issued a renewed travel warning to avoid southeastern turkey due to increased threats. travelers we spoke to said the news wouldn't impact their pla plans. >> it's pretty scary but what we got to do. we have to travel any way. >> i think they're trying to scare the common man and it's not working. we're continuing to fly. >> you have to just keep doing your dale business. let the authorities work on it and hope they dough a good job. >> turkey's prime minister says so far all signs point to isis and while they haven't claimed responsibility the islam tick state and curdish militants did take credit for several attacks in turkey in recent months. >> jessica. >> nicole, thank you stay "eyewitness news" as new details emerge in the terror tack in turkey. you can find updates any time at cbsphilly.com. showers and storms moved

through parts of the region tonight. meteorologist kate boil low when the wet weather moves out. kate? >> ukee, the storms have been scattered in nature this evening and tonight we still have a few out on storm scan3 right now the worst of it missed us to the south and up to the north where we had flash flood warning in north jersey. locally, not a whole lot happening the storms split before coming through the philadelphia area. the city getting the tail end of these showers at the moment but still seeing some steady rain up in portions of central and lower bucks county. let's zoom in on that particular cell right now and you can see where it is. the heaviest rain denoted by the red shading buckingham bucks county and through central and lower buck. abington seeing steady rain at the moment and starting to move into northeast philadelphia as well. while we're not seeing lightning and thunder with these showers and storms we have the risk for steady downpours that could slow down travel through the remainder of the overnight hours. still some scattered showers and storms showing up here on future weather through the next couple

of hours. midnight still the chance for a shower or thunderstorm. after midnight these will really fizzle quickly. it looks like by tomorrow morning we start the day with some sunshine. so again what to expect overnight, just a stray shower or thunderstorm. the biggest threat with any of these storms not severe weather but heavy downpours. expect it to clear after midnight and the humidity will be begin to drop a bit. we'll talk about that reduction in humidity and whether it sticks around fort upcoming holiday weekend coming up with the full forecast. jees. >> kate, thanks so much a famous environmental active visit is taking on a local cause we've been filing for quite sometime now. a crowd gathered tonight concerned about the safety of their drinking water. "eyewitness news" reporter trang do has the story now from willow grove. >> reporter: people concerned about chemicals contaminating the water supply in bucks and montgomery county now have high powered ally in their corner. celebrity active visit erin brokovich. >> you can make the difference

and you can fight and push for answers and for clean water and we're going to help do you it. >> reporter: brokovich spoke via skype to an auditorium in willow grove full of more than 1,000 horsham, warminster and warrington residents. there for meeting organized by law firm whites and luxembourg. >> i think everybody has the same concern. they don't want to be drinking contaminated water. you know, you got to bathe it in and drink it, cook with it. >> reporter: three communities are dealing with alarming levels of chemicals called pfoa and pfos in the water used they're used to fire fighting foam from nearby military air bases and linked to forms of cancer. >> my father died of cancer when i was 30. i grew up in warrington. i have three kids. i want to have a better idea of what's going on. if there's anything we can do about it. >> the firm is gathering information for potential lawsuit against the navy and

other defendants. but some hope brokovich's name alone will push officials to action. >> that's what i'm hoping. that's why i'm here. you know, hopefully they hear the name erin brokovich and get little nervous. >> just last night horsham township's council voted on remediation plan that will ask the nave to pay for. many local officials are pushing the navy to pay for blood testing for residents. in willow grove, i'm trang do, cbs3 "eyewitness news". abington police need the public's help finding three suspectsuspects in with a thefte wholefoods in jenkintown. police are looking for man wouldn't women who stole a shopper's wallet last week. a short time later, the victim' credit card was used to make more than $4,000 purchase at the willow grove bloomingdale's. if you recognize anyone in that video call police. eagle nation is mourning the loss while celebrating the life of a coaching legend. >> former head coach bud dough ryan passed a way and don bell joins us now.

don, no shortage of memories throughout the day and even into the night. >> yeah, mel reece are great. what we're really celebrating right now and also the success he's had. buddy ryan is not only a philly legend but also an nfl icon. today he died at the age of 85. now in recent years, he balanced cancer and struggled with other health issues. ryan may be gone, but his legacy lives on. >> you are a committed player a guy that was going to play hard for him. you know you had his loyalty. >> reporter: buddy ryan, brash, bold, aggressive, so philadelphia. from 1986 until 1991, he brought a brand of football that electrified the city. >> he understood the business of football. and he made it exciting for all of us. >> reporter: buddy believed in defense. he was one of the most brilliant minds the game has ever seen. >> his whole attitude, his whole demeanor, his whole outlook he just fit in perfect with this city. i think he brought the toughness to the eagles that we need and

we always wanted. >> everybody if philadelphia liked that knock down, drag out kick you in the butt type of thing and they like that about buddy. >> that toughness was obvious on the way but away from the bright lights buddy had a soft spot for his players. >> he did show the guys on the inside in his circle he showed those guys a lot of love, and fortunately i was one of those guys. >> when you really get to know him, real good person. committed, loyal person. so i knew that if i ever were to get a in jam or situation where i needed help, buddy ryan is one of the guys i could call. >> coming up later non sports, we'll hear from the voice of the eagles merrill reece he's been calling games for nearly 40 years. you'll want to hear his insights later on in sports. >> no kidding. >> players coach an fans coach. thanks, don. >> the basketball community in philadelphia and the nation is paying tribute to legendary coach pat submit she was 64 and passed away this morning after a battle with early onset

ball is 07. if you play good luck. >> supporters of immigration rights took to the streets today want i was big test for philadelphia police ahead of next month's democratic national convention. >> officers worked to negotiate with protesters blocking access to the vine street expressway at 16th and callowhill. after ignoring three warnings to disperse several protesters were arrested and charged with offenses. police call the impromptu demonstration a dry run for the dnc and they say they're pro paired. >> the bottom line we'll respond to protests during the dnc the same way we respond to protests any other day of the week. we demonstrated we have patience, that this department respects the first amendment. >> police unit also recorded every move by protesters and officers and we're told that's to evaluate whether police used proper procedures in handling that situation. we are now just 27 days away

from the dnc and we have a complete guide to all of the convention happenings on our website cbsphilly.com. the pennsylvania house votes to ban the use of drones in private surveillance. state representatives voted unanimously today for the bill which calls for up to three months in jail and a $300 fine for first offenders. the bill bands surveillance video while did he say passing in private place and it aimed largely at drones. the proposal now goes to the senate for consideration. a similar bill died in the senate during the last legislative segment. the brand new expansion at the king of prussia mall will soon be making its public debut. "eyewitness news" went on tour of the 155,000 square foot project. the new corridor links the mall's court and plaza and will house 50 new retailers including luxury brands. the new addition is set to open august 18th with all new stores open by the fall.

>> no small feat of constructi construction. we to build it over two roads, tear down a parking deck. we had to connect three department stores. >> there also be several new eat reece added to the mall. that project is expected to create another 700 jobs for the area. now to a fascinating sighting off the coast of the jersey shore for group of fishermen. >> they came face to face with juvenile great white shark 3 miles off of margate last sunday. everyone took pictures and sent them to the massachusetts shark research program that's home to great white database. based on the shark's markings it had never been identified. so the fishing crew was loud to name the shark to keep track of it. they named it carlos. >> it was particularly amazing because he was really checking us out. he was as interested in us as we were in him. >> why carlos? >> i don't know. we said what's his name and that was the first thing that came out aj's mouth. >> aj was a teenager on the fishing trip. shark experts estimate there are several thousand great white sharks off the east coast and

it's not unusual to see juvenile sharks close to the shore. >> wow! >> all right. kate joins us now and we've had great shore weekends of late. >> yes, we have. >> yeah. >> really important one is on deck. >> york it is. >> fourth of july weekend. can't believe it's the fourth of july. we're heading for july. we've got pretty typical late june, early july kind of weather to talk about in the seven day forecast. but we've been dealing with showers and storms on and off all evening. and they still are out there right now on storm scan3. let's take look what's happening right now. you can see the showers and storms lifting to the north and east from portions of montgomery and bucks counties up into north jersey. the storms kind of split as they moved through the region earlier tonight. heaviest went north and went south and we didn't get here in philadelphia. kind of explain that earlier if you were watching at 5:00 and 6:00 it talk about the hair stabilized over our region but the clouds and drizzle and the fog we saw earlier today and how i didn't really expect anything

severe to get in here. always good when you don't get a severe thunderstorm. we do need the rain though and some some spots ick ping up rain right now from abington, in this hampton lower and central bucks county right along the turnpike seeing rain at the moment but that's about all we've got out there right now. we do have some storms fizzled earlier off to our west. you can see this time lapse video from the whitfield elementary school in reading starts off the day with clouds, some rain and drizzle now the sun came out especially in our north and west suburbs briefly provided enough fuel for thunderstorms to draw from as they came through in the afternoon you can see the wet roads there but most most of those storms didn't make it into philadelphia prop and the air was too stable down the shore after the morning rain to really get any storms into that region either. so we kind of luck out on the storm front today. the storm are starting to clear. temperatures in the mid 70s here in philadelphia. back to the 60s lancaster reading and allentown. 72 in millville. 70 in atlantic city and 70 degrees in wildwood and finally finally getting a 70

plus degree reading on that ocean water temperature as well. the water finally start to go warm up just in time for the holiday weekend. take look at our water vapor. the blue shading is humid air. the brown shading here that's dry air and you can see the dry air trying to sweep in. we've been drawing into this really moisture rich gulf of mexico pulled up along the coast. today felt very steamy. dew points in the 70s all day. that is all about to change. dew points now dropping into the 60s. they'll be through the overnight hours and you can see those drier dew points though lower dew points moving in from the north and west. we wake up tomorrow and into the afternoon seeing dew points in the 50s and low 60s. it's not dew points in the 30s and 40s like we felt a to you weeks ago. 61-degree dew point whole lot better than 71-degree dew point on thursday dew points in the 50's pretty comfortable humidity the next couple of days. that's so important this time of the year. lower humidity tomorrow. thursday is your best day of the week. lots of sunshine, again, low humidity. friday steams up again with a

chance for isolated shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. so a couple of showers and possible al thunderstorm out there through tonight but it will clear out. generally after about midnight, 1:00 a.m. we'll start to see the showers and storms move away. 68 your overnight low. tomorrow partly sunny, turning progressively less humid, 84 will be your wednesday high and down the shore, looking pretty nice as well 83 degrees. partly sunny, nice and warm. thursday looking great down the shore. lots of sunshine, 81 degrees. so if you're down this week you didn't get your beach day today but the next two looking pretty fantastic and so does the fourth of july weekend. here's your "eyewitness weather" seven day forecast. nice seasonal weather the next two days. friday brings chance for shower and thunderstorm. that could slow down that shore traffic on friday afternoon. but saturday, sunday and fourth of july monday as of now looking pretty perfect. >> good welcome america week. >> thanks, kate. >> all right. don is back what's coming up next sports. >> we continue to talk about a legend celebrating the life of buddy ryan. um next a long-time voice of the

don the memories keep coming out. the celebrations of life a man that meant so much to so many people. >> he was philly. >> exactly. earlier in the show we heard from other people. we'll hear old school buddies much this good stuff. buddy ball was simple if you played dough fence for him you loved it. if you played against his defense you didn't like it so much. buddy ryan the greatest defensive mind in the history of the game. he creator the famed 46 defense in 1984 he was the mastermind behind a bears defense that set an nfl record with 72 sacks in a single season. that same defense led the bears to title in '85. buddy was the head coach of the eagles from '86 to none.

he was fired after three straight play off seasons with first round skits. we caught up with long-time voice of the birds merrill reece to talk about buddy. >> buddy had a great effect on the game he was innovative defensively. i think in all fairness today a lot of fiscal will the that the eagles showed in these days would have drawn flags. personal foul flags buddy believed in taking out quarterbacks. buddy ryan because he had that blue collar tough mentality and because like the city of philadelphia he was particularly against the dallas cowboys. he hated the cal dallas cowboys. >> perfect fit. what can you say? all right. on to baseball now. may 18th, maybe that date doesn't mean much to you one to remember for the phils. that's the last time they won consecutive games. on that day, they were also a season high seven games over 500. now they're 12 games under. and once again looking for back to back wins.
